The Goodwin Sands

... should not be confused with the Dogger Bank. This is much bigger (160 miles by 60), further north (off North Yorkshire), and further out to sea (about 60 miles from the coast). It's also less of a hazard to shipping, as the water depth varies from about 50 to 120 feet – about 65 feet shallower than the surrounding sea.

The Goodwin Sands are about ten miles long and only six miles offshore. Parts of them are actually about 20 inches higher than the low water mark. The Goodwin Sands are also close to the major shipping lanes through the Straits of Dover.
